This is the poem I read at the service. It reminds me of Grandma a lot. I used to go to her house before school but in winter it was dark and I didn’t like the dark street corner. So Grandma would stand at the dinning room window waiting and watching me. She’d wave and after she saw me wave back she’d go put the kettle on and unlock the back door.
The Watcher
by Margaret Widdeman
She always leaned to watch for us
Anxious if we were late,
In winter by the window,
In summer by the gate.
And though we mocked her tenderly
Who had such foolish care,
The long way home would seem more safe,
Because she waited there.
Her thoughts were all so full of us,
She never could forget,
And so I think that where she is
She must be watching yet.
Waiting ‘til we come home to her
Anxious if we are late
Watching from Heaven’s window
Leaning from Heaven’s gate.
For everything we shared,
The dreams, the laughter,
And the tears,
I love you with a Special Love
That deepens every year.
Thank You Grandma

If Roses Grow in Heaven
By Dolores M. Garcia
If roses grow in heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my Mother’s arms
and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there’s an ache within my heart
that will never go away.

A lady taken twice
A lady taken twice, at rest
But we remember all the best
The best of mother, grandma, wife
aunt and sister - a treasured life
We mourn her loss but though we grieve
It was her time to take her leave
Surrounded by her loving clan
She returned to to mum and nan
Now at peace, no longer marred
She will be soaring - no holds barred
Again she’ll paint and craft and sew
Do all the things she loved to do
We say farewell for now but know
That in our hearts an ember glows
Within our hearts we know her best
And can be glad she’s now at rest.
